Driven by our mission of creating impactful relationships to build stronger communities, Journey Construction Group’s new headquarters reflects growing with purpose— right where our story began. With a fall 2025 construction start, Journey broke ground right behind the building where it all started. After eight years of growth, the new office headquarters symbolizes a foundation for the future. Growing right where we started, we will continue to turn vision into reality while investing our partnerships and local communities.
More than half of the building serves as Journey’s new headquarters, housing a modern office environment designed to support collaboration, innovation, and long-term scalability. The remaining portion was intentionally developed as lease space for a future tenant — another investment in the continued growth and opportunity within the corridor.
Inside, the space was designed around how modern teams work best. Open office areas create energy and connectivity across departments, while private offices offer space for focused planning and leadership conversations. Dedicated conference rooms and collaboration areas support client meetings, project coordination, and team engagement, while thoughtfully designed break spaces encourage the informal interactions that help strengthen culture over time.
Journey Construction Group was founded in 2017 with the purpose of partnering with clients from the beginning to end of projects to ensure delivery of high-quality results. We provide our clients with a clear picture and understanding of the journey through the construction process. Brent Balkema founded Journey with the passion for building strong relationships and growing communities. Brent works closely with clients and partners to deliver thoughtful, high-quality construction solutions. He enjoys collaborating with teams, solving complex challenges, and contributing to projects that make a lasting impact across communities.
Journey opened it’s office doors right along Chicago Drive in Jenison, Michigan. Pictured are the original buildings from the previous owner. When Journey became a team of more than one in 2017, Brent Balkema, Owner, bought and renovated the office and warehouse spaces. Now, the new office headquarters are situated behind the previously occupied, and now demolished, office and warehouse. The decision to stay and build in the same location serves as a reflection of our growth and dedication to West Michigan. We will continue to grow and invest in the relationships and communities that made the Journey success possible.
This project was truly built by the people who make Journey what it is. Don West, who has been with Journey from the very beginning, served as Project Superintendent, leading coordination efforts with trade partners and keeping the project moving efficiently from start to finish. Alongside Don, our Trades Team played a hands-on role in constructing the headquarters, adding custom finishes and unique touches throughout the building. Their expertise and commitment are visible in every corner of the space.
