Cost-Effective, Usable Workspace

When the Grand Rapids location of DuraVent, a ventilation manufacturer, needed to move their office out of their current building, they encountered a problem. They needed enough room for all of their employees and for their day-to-day operations like RND, printing, and shipping. We helped our client manage a full renovation of the smaller space that would meet all of DuraVent’s needs with minimal time and a cost-effective budget.

Too Much Space, Not Enough Utility

At their previous building, DuraVent had a lot of space, but no way to use it. The building wasn’t outfitted to meet their needs, so much of their office was inefficient and underutilized.

Their new building had a similar problem—except it was much smaller. The owner of the office space came to Journey with this problem. The interior was outdated and didn’t have the RND labs and conference rooms DuraVent needed. The Journey team had a lot of unique challenges to face—to meet as many of DuraVent’s needs as the budget allowed, and get the project done prior to the expiration of their current lease.

Functional Space for Working and Collaborating

DuraVent needed a lower-cost office space that could still accommodate their extensive manufacturing and RND needs. Journey worked with the building owner to supply the smaller footprint with exactly what DuraVent needed, including a new loading dock and updated office spaces.

The Grand Rapids office is a central location for DuraVent’s enterprise. We outfitted their building with an RND lab, print lab, marketing and HR storage, and an IT workspace for easy access for employees and clients.

DuraVent specializes in ventilation for heating systems across the country—so why not include a real-life showpiece in their offices? A focal fireplace welcomes employees and clients into DuraVent’s offices, fully outfitted with DuraVent products.

We partnered with several trusted contractors to give the rental space a fresh coat of paint, windows for existing offices, collaboration areas and conference rooms—creating a better workspace for DuraVent employees.

The building owner needed to make a lot of changes so DuraVent could move in and get to work. Journey helped them create a more efficient, effective space out of their existing floor plan. 

Meeting Needs on a Budget

The client didn’t break the bank for this project, even though it needed extensive work. We kept the plans practical and the budget tight. In the end, DuraVent had a more affordable, but also more usable, space to work.

A Bustling Business Hub

DuraVent now uses this site as their Grand Rapids hub—performing product research, design and testing for HVAC components, and printing literature for the products they supply.
